Veterans Fishing Program
Veterans Fishing Program
The primary goal of the Veterans Fishing Program is to provide veterans who fly fish with information about local waters and occasional opportunities to gather and socialize while fishing. Keep an eye on the SCCTU calendar and this website for event announcements.
Recently, a ½-mile stretch of Spring Creek in Houserville has been dedicated for the exclusive use of Veterans. Spring Creek fishing regulations do apply. A recent news article explains the opportunity. It was the wish of Dr. Gerald Clair to make his section of Spring Creek available for Veterans use. His daughter Amy, who now has the property, has made this a reality.
If you plan to fish this stretch, please notify Tom Garlow so he can keep the landowner notified of who is on the property. Please send an email to veterans@springcreektu.org. Thank you.
Please keep the number of rods on this stretch to 3 or 4 at a time.
Please use the Farm Gate at 861 Trout Road, Houserville, to access the stream and always chain the farm and pedestrian gate closed when accessing the property and upon departure.
Park in front of the Barn on the road if possible; otherwise, it is OK to park in the field inside the gate.
Do not block the lane inside the gate.
Please have your driver's license handy to identify yourself as a veteran.
When we use this property, we are their guests. Take only photos, leave only footprints.
Volunteers Needed
We will also be looking for volunteers prior to any scheduled events for to help with property maintenance (trimming etc.) and guiding/mentoring if necessary.
Contact veterans@springcreektu.org to express your interest in volunteering.
